Introducing Kaspersky Open Space Security
"Without a doubt, endpoint security is one of the top challenges facing the enterprise today. The rise of the mobile workforce has put the spotlight on endpoint protection. More than ever before, employees are plugging laptops into networks remotely, putting companies at risk for viruses, worms and spyware."
- Information Security Magazine, January, 2007
Kaspersky® Open Space Security (KOSS) is a complete suite of business products that enables small and medium-sized businesses, as well as larger enterprises, to solve the growing security issues arising from today's mobile and distributed workforce. KOSS includes protection for both network perimeters and all nodes on the network, regardless of location, type of device, or platform.
As part of the new Kaspersky Open Space multi-tiered security, the company is complementing both its gateway and mail server protection with the introduction of its newest generation of products - Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows File Servers and Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0. Also being introduced is Kaspersky® Mobile Security for smart devices.
With laptops making up a growing percentage of corporate workstation purchases, along with the seemingly daily introduction of powerful new PDAs and smartphones, corporate computing has crossed over into undefined open space beyond the corporate firewall. KOSS is designed to provide flexible "follow me" security to this new dynamic nature of an ever-increasing mobile workforce while ensuring security both on and off the corporate network.
KOSS provides full flexibility for setting policies for mobile and remote users to ensure maximum protection for laptops disconnected from the corporate network, prescribing the source and frequency of anti-malware updates, scanning schedules, personal firewall configuration and more. Cisco ® NAC (Network Admission Control) is also supported by KOSS, making it possible for computers to be checked during reconnection to the network after an absence. For instance, if an infected computer is detected, it is blocked from any network connection, enabling administrators to track down the source of the infection.
Version 6.0
KOSS is built upon the award-winning Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 engine, first debuted in Q2 2006 with the introduction of Kaspersky's 6.0 personal products. Version 6.0 brings powerful proactive protection to its already acclaimed signature-based protection, coupling both standard anti-malware hourly updates with an advanced warning system to guard against potential threats. This proactive protection can be especially important for users who have not had the opportunity to fully update their malware databases will being remote from the network.
Version 6.0 is built for accelerated system performance, requiring minimal space on any node to run robust protection. And the system's proprietary ISwift TM and IChecker TM technologies significantly optimize scanning for markedly increased performance.
Additionally, Version 6.0 a long list of new enhancements and features, some of which include -
- Fully integrated firewall with intrusion detection and prevention and additional protection for all types of networks including WIFI
- Comprehensive rootkit detection
- Powerful set of new, centralized administrative tools
- Full System Rollback of malicious changes
- Anti-virus self-defense system
Kaspersky Lab business solutions are designed to meet the needs of organizations of all sizes, from environments with just a few users to corporate networks with tens of thousands of users.
Kaspersky Open Space Security (KOSS) is the approach to trans-perimeter network security where protection extends beyond the workplace to reach remote users and an increasingly mobile workforce. Kaspersky Labs believe that freedom and flexibility in corporate communications is fully compatible with airtight protection from contemporary security threats, such as viruses and other malicious programs, hacker attacks, spyware and spam.
Kaspersky Open Space Security products are flexible suites designed to make purchasing network protection simple. For example, take a network that has a large number of Windows workstations, a couple Linux workstations, and a couple file servers. It isn't necessary to buy separate security applications to protect the different nodes of the network, even if running on different platforms. Instead, just find the product that includes the necessary network nodes (in this case, Kaspersky Business Security), add up the licenses that you need, and make just a single purchase. It's that simple!Kaspersky Open Space Security ,

Kaspersky Anti-Virus® for MIMEsweeper integrates tightly with Clearswift MIMEsweeper to provide antivirus scanning and disinfection of incoming and outgoing traffic that passes through the security software. Email offers businesses a fast and versatile means of communication. It also, however, has its disadvantages. Malicious programs and spam are commonly sent in email messages, infecting and damaging computers in the process, or providing criminals with a window through which to access confidential data.M Kaspersky Anti-Virus for MIMEsweeper offers an additional layer of protection for email on your corporate network. The application works together with Clearswift MIMEsweeper to scan SMTP traffic in real time, and where possible, treat infected messages.

Kaspersky® Administration Kit is a dynamic and flexible tool for centralized management of Kaspersky Lab applications on a corporate network. Kaspersky® Administration Kit was expressly designed to meet the needs of networks of any size or complexity. This tool enables central administration of dynamic networks that number tens of thousands of nodes, extending to remote access and laptop users. Kaspersky® Administration Kit allows for the effective management of antivirus protection on networks of any complexity and configuration. The tool allows communication between administrative servers and clients on networks with dedicated lines, VPN, firewalls and proxy servers. Deploying antivirus protection, setting parameters for groups and individuals, updating antivirus databases and program modules, monitoring system status and responding effectively to critical situations – these as well as other administrative tasks can all be carried out from the administrator’s workstation. Data on administrative servers and client computers (including laptops) is regularly synchronized to ensure compliance with the company’s security policy and server settings. This also ensures that administrators receive up-to-the-minute information on network incidents, even when they are not in the office (via SMS, for example). Administration of antivirus protection should be barely perceptible to the end user. With Kaspersky® Administration Kit, administrators can perform all tasks related to deploying and maintaining the company’s antivirus protection remotely, without having to disrupt end users’ work. A number of additional safeguards for the administrative network help to harden network security: configuration of administrator role and task definitions, auditing of administrative activities and data exchange via SSL. Moreover, by operating the antivirus program in non-interactive mode, administrators can ensure that users do not make local changes to application settings that could put the network at risk. The system is administered via the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), which is a familiar tool for network administrators. A choice of wizards is available to simplify integration and setup of the solution. There is also the option of making backup copies of the database and all application settings, which saves the administrator time when re-installing the program. Moreover, color-coded graphic reports make for easy reading.

Effective protection for servers is the key to a complete information security solution for corporate networks. This product provides two-tier data protection: an antivirus monitor which scans all accessed, newly created and modified files in real-time, and an antivirus scanner which scans data storage locations. The scanner can be launched either on demand or automatically according to a defined schedule.
- Kaspersky Administration Kit offers centralised adminstration and management
- KeepUp2Date module ensures smooth, error-free downloading of database updates
- Protection from riskware: adware and spyware
- Improved performance
- Treatment of ZIP, ARJ, CAB and RAR formats
- Faster updates
- iChecker™ and iStreams™ the latest intelligent technologies from Kaspersky Lab, ensure superior performance, as not all files have to be scanned for viruses. Scanning is limited to those files which have changed since the preceding scan. The checksum of all scanned and uninfected files is stored in a special database, and scanning is only carried out if information from a prior scan is not found.
- Infected or suspicious objects which are detected during scanning can be quarantined. They can then be examined by your system administrator and restored, cleaned, deleted, or sent to Kaspersky Lab for further analysis.
- Viruses can be detected in over 900 common archive and compressed file formats. Files in ZIP, ARJ, CAB and RAR format can be treated. The ScriptChecker™ module protects against script viruses. Infected and suspicious objects are quarantined pending further analysis.
- This solution provides real-time protection with files being scanned when accessed, created or modified. Infected and suspicious objects can be quarantined, deleted or treated. Local and networked disks can be scanned on demand. Scanning can be initiated manually or automatically in accordance with a defined schedule.
- Scanning technology enables to program to detect viruses in over 900 archive and compressed file formats. Malicious code is deleted from infected compressed files, and ZIP, CAB, RAF and ARJ format files can be treated.
- All incoming and outgoing mail messages in both SMTP and POP3 are automatically scanned in real time. In addition, viruses detected in MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express email databases are disinfected.
- Classic antivirus programs are unable to protect against script viruses in RAM. ScriptChecker™, a universal script virus interceptor built into Kaspersky Anti-Virus, solves this problem completely. It is integrated into the system as a filter between the script program and the script passer, ensuring that all executable scripts are scanned before being executed.
- Mobile users are guaranteed smooth antivirus database updates even if updates are interrupted: the program saves downloaded materials and automatically picks up where the break ocurred upon reconnection. Users also can control battery usage: they can set the solution to 'no scanning' if the battery is low.
- Five (5) Windows workstations or Linux workstations
- One (1) Windows file server or Linux file server.
The Only Hourly Updates
Virus detection rates and response times have little bearing if computers don't have immediate access to the most up-to-the minute protection. With threats that spread globally faster than wildfire, businesses put vital information assets at unnecessary risk by waiting a full day or even a week to obtain and install updates. Kaspersky Business Optimal anti-malware solutions offer a unique, proprietary engine that provides the industry's only automated hourly updates directly from the Lab – more than 600 per month. Kaspersky updates are a fraction of the size of all other anti-virus solutions (~50 KB versus upwards of 12-15 MB), making it possible to receive regular updates with little or no degradation to workstation or network performance. Flexible administrative options allow security administrators full control over both the timing and distribution methods used for these updates.
The Fastest Response
Time Independent testing also confirms that Kaspersky is by far the fastest to respond to rapid virus outbreaks. Receiving more than 6,000 malicious code samples each month in early 2006 – double the number reported a year earlier – Kaspersky Lab uses unique processes and proprietary technologies inside its Lab that enable the industry's fastest response time. Average turnaround time from discovery to an available fix is typically less than 20 minutes. (Source: AV-Test.org)
The Highest Detection Rates
According to recent independent testing, Kaspersky's anti-virus and anti-spyware technology was proven to have the highest detection rate in the industry. In addition, it was reported to have the lowest false positives. (Sources: AV-comparatives.org, Computerbild.de)
Scalability
Of course, your goal is for your business to grow. This network security package was put together with the ability to add as many components as you need because it can be used separately or easily expanded or integrated into something bigger. Protection for gateways, antispam for malboxes, workstations, file servers and all other network security components can be added seamlessly in any configuration at any time. You can even centrally manage all computers with the Admin Kit, which is free to download from Kaspersky site. For information about additional configurations for this product, see our Business Security products.
